Today in room 16:

We started our morning with a big chunk of time to work on poetry projects. Today was the final class day to work on them! They are due Tuesday next week.

After poetry we had snack and recess before starting our remembrance day assembly. In the assembly we heard from Ms Austin who provided the acknowledgement of the land and some background information on Indigenous soldiers. We made a large wreath yesterday out of poppies that we brought to the learning commons. We also heard from Ms Anderson who read us the eleventh hour. The students all song The Highway of Heroes while Mr Weins played along on guitar. It was truly a beautiful remembrance day ceremony.

In math the students completed a graphing assignment that had them analyzing and creating graphs. They then had to answer questions specific to the information in each of the graphs.

After lunch we had an hour mathletics before a quick appreciation circle.

Hope everyone has a wonderful long weekend!

See you next week.

We started our morning with some time for DEAR to slowly shake off the weekend cobwebs. After reading we moved straight into division. The questions today had us practicing multi digit division with decimals and a few area/perimeter questions. Below are some extra practice questions!

After math we had our Monday spelling test on our science words. I sent these home to be checked by parents and brought back to me.

We then had music and gym before moving into science and learning about how the growth of a tree connects to the nutrient cycle.

In the afternoon we had recess and mindfulness before having another hour to work on poetry projects. These are due next Monday!

Below is the project explanation.

Hope everyone has a great evening!

Today in room 16:

We started our morning with some time to do DEAR before marking our math test from the previous day.
I went over all 15 addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication questions. These were sent home to be marked and returned Monday.

After we marked our test the students had an hour to work on their poetry projects. The students have been working hard and asked for more time to complete their poetry. The new due date is November 15 (after the long weekend).

We then enjoyed some Netflix Friday while we ate snack. The next chunk of our morning was spent working on our spelling sentences. I gave students dictionaries and they could use their notes to write down the definition or use the science spelling word in a sentence with an example. If students did not finish today, the sentences are for homework DUE MONDAY.

We finished our morning with a needed desk clean, appreciation circle and intense game of dodgeball!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

We started our morning with a BIG chunk of math! We practiced our four computation questions in preparation for our computation quiz tomorrow. We then broke down division further and started to compute decimal division questions.

After math, the students were called down to receive their vaccine immunizations.

We then went outside before coming in to read and choose new library books.

Today the students completed another visualization and reading comprehension activity. The text today came from a book called, The Ghost Road by Chris Cotter. I read the first two chapters while students used their minds eye, ears, feeling and words that stick to help them visualize what they read. They then answered six blooms reading comprehension questions connected to the reading.

In the afternoon we had another big chunk of time to work on our poetry projects. These are due this coming Tuesday so the next couple days are going to be busy!

Have a great evening everyone.

Today in room 16:

We started our morning with DEAR before diving into math.

Today we graphed the data from the three grade 6 classes Chaney Wenjack walk. The distances walked had to be graphed in either a line or triple bar graph. Some students started some analyzation questions with the graphs.

We then had snack and CNN10 before our first lockdown practice. All students went to the corner by our green safety dot and sat quietly until an officer came in and told us we were able to resume class. We then went out for recess before coming in to do our spelling test.

After we marked our spelling test I told all students to take them home to show their parents.

The next chunk of the morning was spent learning about food webs and chains. We learned how the energy passes through different levels of the chain through producers, consumers, and decomposers.

After science we had a short health lesson on the grade 6 immunizations. Grade sixes will get their vaccinations on Wednesday for those who signed up.

In gym today Mrs Sterne led the class in volleyball! This will be our unit for the next couple weeks.

In the afternoon we had a large chunk of time to work on our poetry projects. These are due next week. The rubric and details can be found below:
