Happy Wednesday May 4, 2022
Math: Patterns- Input Output Machines
LA: News articles, reading comprehension quiz, Mock PAT
Science: Air and Aerodynamics - Drag and gravity experiment & how birds fly
Social: Charter of Rights and Freedoms project. THIS PROJECT HAS BEEN MOVED TO MONDAY
This week in room 16:
We started our morning with some time to do DEAR and finish some articles and notes from the previous day.
After DEAR we moved into math and continued our exploration of inputs and outputs. These problems are a connection between the patterns from the previous week and our algebra unit next week.
When we finished our recess we moved into LA for some self reflection on our articles. Yesterday I had the students write an article about endangered wolf pups being found in the wild. I provided a fact sheet in the style of the PAT's to help prep for our PAT on Friday. Today I showed the students the real article I pulled the info from to see what a professional article using the same facts can look like. I then showed the students the rubric I used to mark to their articles. They used the same style of article rubric to evaluate their work and say two things they did well (stars) and two things they needed to work on. They then gave themselves a mark out of 4 on how well they did on their articles.
After music and gym we dove into science and looked at different flight adaptations birds use to survive.
-Feathers
-Hollow bones
-Wings
-Air sacks
These were some of the adaptations we learned about!
In the afternoon we had the privilege of seeing the SJAM band perform for us in an assembly. Students loved hearing Dr Dre, star wars and pirates of the Caribbean to name a few!
We finished off our day by selecting options on powerschool. If your child was not here today or would like to switch their options they can do so up to May 16!

School Messenger message:
Good afternoon parents and families,
I wanted to provide a few updates for the weeks ahead.
On Wednesday May 11 we have our first dance residency.
PAT news:
On Wednesday May 18 we have our first Provincial Achievement Test. This test will consist of writing an article based off an information sheet and a story based off a picture.
This Friday May 6 we will be having our mock (practice) PAT of LA part A to get the students exposed to what the real test will be like. Students that will be working with technology or an adult will be able to practice using these supports as well.
Next Friday May 13 we will be having a mock LA PAT part B. In Part B students will read passages, poems, stories and articles, which they have to answer multiple choice questions about. The actual PAT is not until June 14th, we are just doing a trial run with some tech and programs.
Thursday May 19 Grade six vaccinations.
Have a great day everyone!
