Today in room 16:

We started our morning with some DEAR time before diving into fractions and comparing them to decimals. 

Practice questions can be found below! Make sure to represent as both a fraction, decimal and percent.

In Social we continued working on our Athens booklets that explore the governments and social structures of ancient athenians.

In gym we practiced lacrosse skills and played a large game of ultimate lacrosse.

Today in room 16:

We started our morning with watching some hockey highlights from the flames game last night. Today was our our spirit day celebrating the battle of Alberta, students wore blue or red and different jerseys to celebrate their teams.

Next up we had our Pillars of Care assembly! Congrats to the winners in room 16 and to the patrollers of the month.

After our assembly we went outside for compound games on the playground with the grade 1/2's.

Upon returning to class we dove into our algebra test. This will be marked next week!

After the test we moved into tech time. Students had to complete a survey (found on google classroom for those are away), then work on a social studies scavenger hunt with 40 questions. Students who completed 20 questions earned some choice time on the tech.

Today in room 16:

We started our morning with some time to work on math, practicing how to solve equations, before heading off to the gym for our first grade 6 rehearsal. After the rehearsal we returned to working on the math from the start of the morning. 

Once we finished snack and recess we headed down to the gym again for our grade 4, 5, 6 rehearsal. This was immediately followed by some DEAR time. 

Students then went outdoors for lacrosse time playing an ultimate frisbee style lacrosse game. 

When we returned to class we had a news article quiz. This quiz had the students analyzing some characteristics of news articles before reading an article and breaking it down.

In the afternoon we had our whole school rehearsal in which the grade 4, 5, 6 students put on a great show for the div 1 students.

We finished our day by using computers to research and create our own paper airplanes. We tested these planes in the class before modifying them.

Today in room 16:

We started our morning with a basic facts exam which I am happy to report had a class average of 81%!

The test was sent home today and should be signed and returned. 

After our math test the students had a reading comprehension activity to complete. For the activity the students read an article about whether or not there could be other life in space on a planet like Earth. They then answered questions based off the reading.

Once we finished music and gym we had an opportunity to use some tech to do mathletics and some class kahoots on algebra and parts of planes.

We finished our day watching the movie Wonder to connect to our pillar of care...Resilience!

On Wednesday May 18 we have our first Provincial Achievement Test. This test will consist of writing an article based off an information sheet and a story based off a picture. Practice PAT's were provided yesterday.

Today in room 16:

We started our morning with some DEAR before diving into math. In Math this week we are working on Algebra and balancing questions by solving for x. Below are some helpful videos!

After math we marked our Mock LA PAT part B from Friday. The exam was out of 50. I can send marks home but I cannot provide the tests as we will use them next year.

In gym we started ultimate frisbee and practiced throwing outside. 

After gym we moved into LA. In LA today I gave the students back their personalized feedback for their stories and articles they wrote last week. We reflected on the feedback and then went over what makes a good article again. 

In the afternoon we looked at how helicopters. We then built mini helicopters to show how the motion of the blades works and how they slow as they approach the ground.

Today the students wrote a mock PAT for the Language Arts part B reading exam.

Students read several poems, articles, stories and comics and answered multiple choice questions based off the best answer.

After the PAT we marked our patterns test from Thursday. This has been sent home to be signed!

We finished the day by playing kickball against another grade 6 class.

Reminders:

On Wednesday May 18 we have our first Provincial Achievement Test. This test will consist of writing an article based off an information sheet and a story based off a picture. 

TOMORROW! Friday May 13 we will be having a mock LA PAT part B. In Part B students will read passages, poems, stories and articles, which they have to answer multiple choice questions about. The actual PAT is not until June 14th, we are just doing a trial run with some tech and programs.

Thursday May 19 Grade six vaccinations.

Today in room 16:

Today was a VERY busy day for the students in room 16.

We started our morning with a patterns test to measure the students ability to find increasing/decreasing patterns and input/output machines. We will mark this test hopefully tomorrow.

After recess we moved into our end of unit social studies test on the charter of rights and freedoms. This 25 question test has been marked and sent home!

For the last chunk of the morning the students had a chance to write either an article or story in preparation for the PAT next week. Some students still need to finish. I will mark these articles and stories and give them back to the students with direct feedback on how they can be improved.

In the afternoon we had some tech time and catch up time. Students that were done their storyboards, news articles and stories were able to use the tech to do mathletics, prodigy and typing.com while the others finished their work.
