Monday December 6, 2021

 Happy Monday December 6, 2021!

As a class we decided we are going to start doing fun Fridays. This means we will choose a theme for every Friday (such as anime, specific colour, hats) that we will vote on each week. We are doing this as a way to further strengthen our class community and have a laugh each Friday.

December Spirit Day is the last day of school this term, Friday Dec 17th, and it will be Festive Holiday themed.  That could mean, ugly holiday sweaters, dress as Santa or his elves or his reindeer or a snowmen/women, or even a lit-up holiday tree! Basically, anything to get into that holiday cheer!

This year we will be doing Secret Santa for those that would like to participate. The max is $5 for spending. We will exchange names when I get all the forms back. I sent home the form today. It can also be found below. Apologies for the error on the sheet I sent home. It says 2018. I had it fixed...but I printed the old document.

Reminders:

  1.  Poetry projects were due Tuesday Nov 16
  2. Trees and forests project due MONDAY Dec 6. I am giving students the weekend to work on them. We have started to present the projects in class.
  3. December Spirit Day Friday December 17th -Holiday themed
  4. Science test this coming Friday December 10 Review can be found beliow
  5. Mayor's food bank --- BRING IN ANY CANNED OR DRIED GOODS for the less fortunate.
  6. Basic Facts test Thursday!
  7. Loonies for Lunch - same as above but bring in a loonie to help homeless people for their lunches

  8. Patrollers will be happening this year! If you're interested we will be handing out sign up forms next week. We are also looking for some amazing parents that would be willing to support the patrollers by becoming patrol supervisors! Email me at malancee@cbe.ab.ca if you are interested.

Today in room 16:

We started our morning with some DEAR before continuing our exploration of finding the perimeter and area of L shapes. We will continue this work tomorrow by exploring how to find triangle areas.

After math we read another two chapters of Touching Spirit Bear and answered questions from chapter 6-8. Students need a bit more time for the questions so we will finish them tomorrow.

We also had gym and music which were followed by some more time on our novel study.

In gym we are learning basketball, and in music we are practicing a Christmas carol to sing in front of the school virtually.

The end of our day was spent going over our science review for the upcoming test Friday. We also had presentations of our science projects! I want to see the students level of understandings and give the students a chance to share what they have learned from our trees and forests unit.

Mayor's Food Drive + Loonies for Lunches

With the holiday season soon approaching it's important to care for others and give back to those who are less fortunate than us.  This holiday season, Beddington Heights School will be a part of 2 programs that the city of Calgary runs for those less fortunate.
The first program is Loonies for Lunches.  Loonies for Lunches would bring students together to collect loonies to donate to the food bank. Each school and/or classroom would create a donation box to collect the loonies and perhaps have some healthy competition to see which class could raise the most. The loonies would then be used by the Food Bank to purchase food for our Weekends and More program that makes sure kids get the nutritious food they need on the weekends to stay healthy and learning.
The Mayor's Food Drive is where we collect non-perishable items, i.e. can goods, sealed boxed items, for Calgary's Food Bank.  Both programs start this Monday to Dec 14th.
For more information, please visit https://www.calgaryfoodbank.com/wam/, thank you for the support on this!
