Today in room 5:
We started our morning with some quiet reading time before our Friday walk for Wenjack.
Today we walked around the community for a total of 1.52 km. Overall total km's walked this week was 164.03 km! Way to go room 16!
When we returned from our walk we had some time to reflect on Chaney Wenjack, residential schools, and how some questions related the medicine wheel.
Below are the questions:
Mind:
What do you know about the practices at Residential Schools?
Provide some examples of how children lived at them.
Spirit:
How did residential schools try to break the spirit of Indigenous children?
Describe a situation where you followed your beliefs and took action against something you felt was wrong.
Heart:
What gave Chanie the courage to run away from his Residential School?
Body:
Imagine you were in Chanie’s place on the run. How would your body feel after several days of running?
The Medicine Wheel
After our reflections we had snack before starting math.
Our math block was spent calculating the total distance we had walked for each day. We used this data to compute how close we were to meeting our goal of 600 km.
We then took the total distances walked and recreated them in a bar graph. On Monday we will continue this by comparing the data to the other grade 6 classes.
We finished up our day by having an appreciation circle talking about the week and our plans for the weekend.
Hope everyone has a great Friday and weekend!
Mr Lancee
