Today in room 5:
We started our morning some morning addition and subtraction of decimals, and basic facts practice. We spent a short chunk of time on this before starting our multiplication of whole numbers and decimals. We will be working on this throughout this week and next.
After math we had a short block to work on a bio poem in which the students wrote about different aspects of themselves.
When we finished snack and recess we had thirty minutes to read before starting "The Secret Path."
The Secret Path
Chaney Wenjack was an indigenous boy who was taken to a residential school. While at the school he missed his family, was abused, forced to learn a new language and mistreated. He then escaped the residential school and tried to walk home over 600 km. Chaney unfortunately did not make his journey. We are walking everyday as a way to raise awareness for Chaney and children who were forced to attend residential schools. We are tracking our distance walked each day and multiplying it by the number of students in class that day.
After our walk we had a chunk of time to allow students to present their skits before lunch.
Once we finished afternoon recess and mindfulness we had time to study for our science test tomorrow.
We logged into ipads and Kahoot to complete some online quizzes. We tested our knowledge on deciduous vs coniferous trees and tree cookies.
Have a great evening everyone!
Mr Lancee
